Geraldine de Berly of University College gave two talks in Japan the week of March 5-8. The first in Tokyo to a group of high school teachers dealt with improving oral communication in the Japanese English language classroom. The second in Kobe was titled “Preparing Japanese Students for Study Abroad” and was directed at a number of university study abroad counselors and English language instructors. In addition, de Berly traveled to the Tokai University campus to meet with senior administrators, including the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Kiyoshi Yamada, to discuss the ongoing relationship between Tokai and Syracuse University. Tokai has been sending between 5-8 students for intensive English for over 25 years. In Tokyo, de Berly also met with the Human Resources partner for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu to renew its contract with the English Language Institute.
