Quantum physicist Amit Goswami will speak Monday, March 4, in Room 500 Hall of Languages at 7 p.m.

Goswami has been instrumental in creating a new paradigm in the field of science that he calls “science within consciousness,” or “quantum consciousness,” exploring the notion that “consciousness is the ground of being.” He is interested in exploring the ways in which the intersection of science and spirituality can create a better, more peaceful world. In his new book, “How Quantum Activism Can Save Civilization,” Goswami elucidates how this new paradigm can help to create “new, healthy practices that restore wholeness …” and to promote “a spiritual economics that is concerned with our well-being rather than only our material needs.”

The event is cosponsored by the Student Buddhist Association and the Student Association. It is open to the public.

Free tickets are available at the Schine Box Office. Parking is available for $4 at Irving Garage (mention the event); handicapped parking is available on the Quad.

Goswami is professor emeritus from the University of Oregon’s Institute of Theoretical Science, where he taught for 30 years. He is the author of the textbook “Quantum Mechanics,” which is used in many colleges and universities worldwide. He is also the author of several popular books, including “The Self-Aware Universe” (Tarcher, 1995) and “How Quantum Activism Can Save Civilization” (Hampton Roads Publishing Co., 2011). Goswami has been featured in several films, such as “What the Bleep Do We Know?,” “The Dalai Lama Renaissance” and an award-winning documentary, “The Quantum Activist.”

“The Quantum Activist” will be shown on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Noble Room in Hendricks Chapel.
