SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

“Cry for Peace: Voices from the Congo,” was featured in a New York Times theater review. The documentary theater piece in the Ping Chong & Company’s Undesirable Elements series was presented in Manhattan’s La MaMa Ellen Stewart Theater. The Post-Standard also noted the play’s New York City debut and Times review.

A CNN Health story notes an early Syracuse University connection with the recently canonized saint, Roman Catholic nun Mother Marianne Cope.

A Hechinger Report piece on student financial literacy features Syracuse University and its Money Awareness Program working with students through the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Programs to reduce loan debt. CNN Money and the Post-Standard also reported on the topic.

The Post-Standard previewed the Michael J. Sandler’s presentation for the Maxwell School Tanner Lecture on Ethics, Citizenship and Public Responsibility on Weds., Oct. 24.

A Sunday Post-Standard brief and a CNY Central report noted Remembrance Week events at Syracuse University.

A New Inspiration for the Nation blog post features an interview with Andrew Young following the third Common Ground for Peace panel, “The Past is Not the Past: The Continuing Quest for Racial Justice and Peace.” Panelists included Young; Martin Luther King III; Linda Carty, associate professor of African American studies in The College of Arts and Sciences; and Janis McDonald and Paula Johnson, College of Law professors and co-director of the Cold Case Justice Initiative (CCJI). A podcast is available here. Also, McDonald was recently interviewed by the BBC on cold case justice.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, spoke with WTVN-AM radio (Columbus, Ohio) about talent crossovers between television and the movies.

Eric Kingson, professor, School of Social Work in the Falk College, co-authored a Huffington Post piece about reporting on Social Security cost of living adjustments.

Anthony Rotolo, assistant professor of practice in the School of Information Studies (iSchool), spoke with CNY Central about social media and the elections.
