SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

A study co-authored by A. Joseph Warburton, associate professor of law and finance at the Syracuse University College of Law and the Whitman School of Management, is cited in a Christian Science Monitor editorial on fear-mongering in politics.

The Detroit Free Press and Syracuse.com reported on Chancellor Cantor’s speech at the University of Michigan on Thursday, defending affirmative action in college admission decisions. Cantor is included among the individuals and groups named in the friend of the court brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court in the Fisher v. University of Texas case.

The October issue of Military Advanced Education features an article on military friendly schools and campus support of student veterans that highlights SU’s work in creating a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment for veterans and their dependents. Also, SU’s Veterans Technology Program is mentioned as a program of study that is targeted specifically toward veterans.

YNN, 13WHAM (Rochester), 9WSYR and CNY Central covered the SU announcement a new, proactive safety initiative to enhance security on and around campus.

YNN and Syracuse.com covered the campus visit by U.S. Undersecretary of State Tara Sonenshine on Thursday, with the annual Association of Public Diplomacy Scholars Symposium.

A Post-Standard editorial noted Manhattan opening of “Cry for Peace: Voices from the Congo.” The documentary theater piece in the Ping Chong & Company’s Undesirable Elements series premiered at Syracuse Stage.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, was interviewed for an NPR Fresh Air book review. Also, CBS Interactive SmartPlanet and Democracy Now blog posts reviewed Johnston’s book, “The Fine Print: How Big Companies Use “Plain English” to Rob You Blind.”

Mike Haynie, executive director and founder of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families and Barnes Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Whitman School, appeared on The Willis Report on Fox Business to discuss skill sets that veterans bring to manufacturing and the post-service translation of those skills and abilities to showcase the benefit they bring to firms working to close the skills gap within the industry.

Lisa Dolak, Angela S. Cooney Professor of Law, wrote a guest analysis for the patent law blog Patently-O on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s goal to modernize its ethics rules by issuing a Notice of proposed rulemaking.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, spoke with WBEN-AM (Rochester) radio about polarization in this year’s presidential election.

David Rezak, director of the Bandier Program in the Setnor School of Music at the College of Visual and Performing Arts, is quoted in a YNN story on the 30th anniversary of compact disc technology.

Bill Coplin, professor of public policy at the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences, was interviewed on a 9WSYR “Bridge Street” segment, discussing his book “10 Things Employers Want You to Learn in College.”

Rosemary Kelly, assistant dean of student administrative services, and two SU students appeared on a 9WSYR “Bridge Street” segment discussing nontraditional students at SU.
