Syracuse University is participating in the 12th annual Disability Mentoring Day of Greater Syracuse this year on Wednesday, Oct. 17. Disability Mentoring Day is an international event held on the third Wednesday of October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

This event allows local students and job seekers with disabilities to expand their horizons, explore career options and experience the workplace. Individuals will be visiting with a variety of SU departments this year, including Fix It, Physical Plant, Maxwell Career Services, Whitman’s Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises and the Whitman Undergraduate Office.

The day begins with a breakfast sponsored by SU at Drumlins that brings together mentees with mentors from SU departments and area businesses and service agencies. The mentees then join their mentors for an office tour and/or job shadowing experience at SU and throughout the greater Syracuse community. At last count, some 86 mentees had been matched with 33 employer organizations this year.

If you would like to know more about Disability Mentoring Day, contact Christina Percoski in Human Resources at 443-4690 or crpercos@syr.edu or visit the web site of Disability Mentoring Day of Greater Syracuse at www.disabilitymentoringday.org.
