Open Enrollment info sessions start Wednesday

Monday, October 15, 2012, By News Staff

Open Enrollment begins Oct. 29 and continues through Nov. 9. This is the only time of the year when faculty, staff, GAs/Fellows and part-time instructors who are eligible for benefits may elect or change their coverage, unless they undergo a qualifying life event.

One big change for 2013 is that those who take advantage of health and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts will be able to file claims and monitor accounts directly from their smart phones and other mobile devices, making the submission process quicker and more convenient.

This year, those who do not wish to make changes in the benefits they elected last year do not need to actively affirm their choices, with the exception of Flexible Spending Accounts, for which contributions must be designated annually. However, everyone is encouraged to review their benefits during this time and consider making any necessary or appropriate changes. The changes take effect Jan. 1, 2013.

Human Resources will be issuing a variety of communications highlighting Open Enrollment and benefits news. Starting Wednesday, Oct. 17, a series of information sessions for benefits-eligible faculty and staff will be presented at different times and locations around campus. Four webinars are also planned. The complete schedule is posted on the Open Enrollment web site at openenrollment.syr.edu/pdf/OE_Schedule_2012.pdf.
