SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The New York Times reviewed the New York City presentation of “Cry for Peace: Voices from the Congo,” a documentary theater piece in the Ping Chong & Company’s Undesirable Elements series. The Syracuse Stage’s Kyle Bass, adjunct professor of drama in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, collaborated with Ping Chong on the piece, based on interviews with members of the Syracuse area Congolese community.

Media coverage of memorial events for Bassel Shahade, the Syracuse University graduate student and Fulbright Scholar killed in Syria, includes reports on YNN, 9WSYR, CNY Central and WRVO.

Local and regional coverage of Syracuse International Film Festival events includes several stories in the Post-Standard, here, here and here, and an article in the Rome Observer.

Further coverage of “Common Ground for Peace” and the “One World Concert” with the Dalai Lama at SU includes: a San Jose Mercury News photo gallery, World Entertainment News Network, two different reports on WRVO, and the Post-Standard.

SU is included in a U.S. News & World Report article on college majors in new media.

The San Diego Metro‘s Daily Business Report, third item, notes the area’s entrepreneurship and small business management symposium hosted by the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) and corporate partner Humana. Jared Lyon, EBV National Program Manager at the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF), and IVMF Board Member and EBV-SU Class of 2008 graduate Brian Iglesias (U.S. Marine Corps), owner of Veterans Expeditionary Media, will participate.

The Post-Standard noted Chancellor Cantor is included among the individuals and groups named in the amici curiae (friend of the court) brief in the Fisher v. University of Texas affirmative action related case before the U.S. Supreme Court Wednesday.

The Post-Standard reviewed the Syracuse Stage presentation of “Moby Dick.”

The Central New York Business Journal reported on the SU 2013 Raymond von Dran IDEA Awards student venture competition, featuring a new track for Healthy IDEAs. St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center and Welch Allyn, a medical device manufacturer, are sponsoring the track.

FACULTY QUOTES

A Christian Science Monitor article on reaction to the Biden-Ryan debate quotes Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Eric Kingson, professor, School of Social Work in the Falk College, was quoted on Social Security in a Huffington Post story about the Biden-Ryan debate. Kingson was also quoted about Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security in a Post-Standard story on the downtown Syracuse march to show support for protecting those programs.
