Innovation Trail and the Post-Standard reported on Syracuse University winning nearly $1.9 million in federal economic development funds support a business accelerator at the University for small and medium-sized manufacturers in the field of thermal and environmental control systems.

Continued coverage of the “Common Ground for Peace” symposiums and the “One World Concert” with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at SU included the Associated Press, the Business Insider and Phayul.com. Several Post-Standard articles appeared, including one on the special chair used by the Dalai Lama, also published in the Washington Post and Huffington Post. Broadcast coverage included NPR, YNN, 9WSYR and WSYR-AM reports.

An Associated Press article, which appeared in the Marine Corps Times, Army Times, Air Force Times, Navy Times and Yahoo! Small Business Advisor, on returning veterans pursuing entrepreneurship post-service features the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) program, founded at the Whitman School in 2007 and operated by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families. EBV-UConn graduate Ed Young is profiled on his entrepreneurial journey after his military career. The article also quotes EBV-UConn executive director Michael Zacchea on Young’s success. Also, The Street and The Herald (San Diego), reported on a entrepreneurship and small business management symposium hosted by corporate partner Humana in partnership with the EBV in San Diego. Ray Toenniessen, IVMF director of new initiatives and external relations, is to speak at the event. Mike Haynie, executive director and founder of the IVMF and the EBV, is quoted.

This week’s Post-Standard CNY Business Exchange section features an interview with Ed Bogucz, executive director of Syracuse Center of Excellence (SyracuseCoE) and associate professor in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science, discussing the 12th Annual Symposium on Environmental and Energy Systems.

Connective Corridor renovations on East Genesee Street are included in the Post-Standard CNY Business Exchange “Cranes in the Air” section.

FACULTY QUOTES

Harriet Brown, associate professor of magazine journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, spoke with Wisconsin Public Radio on bullying that targets overweight people.

Jing Lei, associate professor of instructional design, development and evaluation at the School of Education was quoted in the Chronicle of Higher Education about online courses with large followings in China.
