SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Digital Journal, WKTV Channel 2 Utica, 9WSYR, Albany Times Union, Utica Observer Dispatch, Post-Standard, YNN and Nonprofit Quarterly reported on the announcement of “Common Ground for Peace,” a landmark two-day forum led by His Holiness the Dalai Lama—spiritual leader of Tibet—to be held on Monday, Oct. 8 and Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Syracuse University. The event, which is being produced and sponsored by the One World Community Foundation, will bring together international thought leaders, the SU campus and the greater Syracuse community in critical conversations about how to shift global consciousness toward matters of peace.

Sean Kirst’s Post-Standard column highlighted the convocation speech delivered by Travis Mason ’06.

The Post-Standard reported on Sam Morrison, iSchool senior known for his year’s worth of daily back flips, being featured on the cover of Time Magazine.

FACULTY QUOTES

Rick Burton, Falk Professor of Sport Management in the Falk College, was quoted in the New York Times on Aug. 28 in an article highlighting the United Way’s recruiting of college-educated NFL players for a new public service ad campaign calling for volunteer readers, tutors and mentors.

Dessa Bergen-Cico, assistant professor of public health in the Falk College Department of Public Health, Food Studies and Nutrition, was quoted in an ABC News story on new research about marijuana and IQ.

Eric Kingson, professor in the School of Social Work in the Falk College, was interviewed on Fox Business News on recommendations for improving Social Security.

David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law, is quoted in thePost-Journalon the Chautauqua Declaration being renewed by international prosecutors.

Lorraine Branham, dean of the Newhouse School, commented in the Post-Standard and on WSYR radio about the recent announcement by the Post-Standard to make a larger shift to digital content.

David Rubin, professor and dean emeritus at the Newhouse School, spoke with CNY Central about the Post-Standard’s announcement.
