One of America’s most outstanding public servants has been named chair of the Maxwell School’s Advisory Board. Sean O’Keefe, who served as secretary of the navy, administrator of NASA, comptroller and chief financial officer of the Department of Defense and chancellor of Louisiana State University, will take the position immediately. O’Keefe is currently chairman of the board and chief executive officer of EADS North America.
O’Keefe has been associated with Maxwell for many years and is a longtime member of the advisory board. He earned an MPA from Maxwell in 1978, and from 1996-2001 held an endowed chair at the school. Concurrently, he served as director of the National Security Studies program at the school.
In making the announcement, Maxwell School Dean James Steinberg said, “Sean brings to his new Maxwell leadership role a broad perspective shaped by a diverse background in public service and private industry, including time at the school as the Louis Bantle Chair of Business and Government. I look forward to working closely with Sean, and with all members of the advisory board—past and present—to advance the mission and goals of Maxwell.” Steinberg also thanked outgoing board chair Bill Eggers for his service and “his leadership during a time of transition here at the school.”
