SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The Tacoma Weekly reported on Operation Boots to Business: From Service to Startup, a program to help transitioning service members and veterans become entrepreneurs. The pilot program was launched by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF), the U.S. Small Business Administration and the U.S Marine Corps on four USMC bases and goes nationwide in 2013. Also, the CNY Business Journal reported on the IVMF appointing Virginia Military Institute professor Roger Thompson as senior fellow.

Statistics from Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) are cited in a San Francisco Chronicle article about the possible deportation of Mexican national Enrique Candia.

Research on political participation of people with disabilities in the United States coauthored by Lisa Schur of Rutgers University and Meera Adya, Burton Blatt Institute director of research, is featured in an article in USA Today about voters with disabilities facing access barriers.

9WSYR (watch clip) reported on the wrap-up of the Interactive Science Program camp for Syracuse City School District students. The weeklong camp at Syracuse University focused on STEM projects and learning about science. David Morgan, director of the Partnership for Better Education at SU, is quoted.

FACULTY QUOTES

Rick Burton, the David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the Falk College, is quoted in a Los Angeles Times article on the spokesperson appeal of London Olympic gymnastics gold medalist Gabrielle Douglas. Burton also authored a Bloomberg news piece on the future return of the Olympics to the United States.

Louis Kriesberg, professor emeritus in the Maxwell School, is quoted in an Associated Press article about economic sanctions and political change.

Leonard Burman, the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs at the Maxwell School, is quoted in a New York Times story on Mitt Romney’s unreleased federal tax returns and in a Washington Post article on Romney and tax reform. Hispanic Business also quotes Burman in a story on the budget proposals of recently named Romney running mate Paul Ryan.

Mike Cahill, director of SU Career Services, commented on internship programs for a Fox News report on small businesses hiring college graduates.

Eric Kingson, professor, School of Social Work in the Falk College, was quoted in a Los Angeles Times article about the selection of Paul Ryan as the vice presidential choice of Mitt Romney.

Margaret Butler, South Side Innovation Center facilities coordinator, is quoted in a CNBC report on college, entrepreneurship and Thiel Foundation fellowships.

Anthony Rotolo, assistant professor of practice in the iSchool, is quoted in Politico on social media and Romney’s running mate Paul Ryan.

Kim Brown, alumni program coordinator in Syracuse University Career Services, is featured in a 9WSYR “Bridge Street” segment (watch clip) on how LinkedIn and other social networks can factor into job hunting.

David Rubin, professor and dean emeritus at the Newhouse School, authored a Post-Standard commentary on the rebranding of Carousel Center as Destiny USA.
