Maxwell School MPA convocation to feature U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director John Berry
The director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, John Berry, will present the Maxwell School’s MPA convocation address on June 29 at 10 a.m. in Hendricks Chapel to more than 100 graduates and their friends and families. Berry, a 1981 MPA graduate of Maxwell, has more than 25 years of federal government service and has served as OPM director since 2009.
John Perry, also a Maxwell MPA graduate, will receive the 2012 Public Administration Award, which is given annually to an individual who exemplifies the ideals of public service espoused by the Maxwell School and the school’s Public Administration and International Relations Department. Perry, who retired in 2009 as village administrator for Woodridge, Ill., will also lead the graduating class in the recitation of the Athenian Oath.
Professor of Public Administration and International Affairs Rosemary O’Leary will deliver the faculty address; she will also receive the annual Birkhead-Burkhead Teaching Excellence Award. The Brady K. Howell Student Address will be delivered by Justin Lawrence, and the international student welcome will be delivered by Roza Vasileva. Both students are receiving their MPAs.
