An Associated Press article highlights the sustainability of Syracuse University/SUNY-ESF 2012 Commencement gowns made from Repreve Fabric, which is manufactured from sustainable fibers using approximately 25 post-consumer plastic bottles per gown.

Politico reported on the announcement of Mirror Awards finalists by the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Reports in The Financial Express and Adgully blog, AgTalk, note that John Philip Jones, professor emeritus in the Newhouse School, will be a seminar speaker at the advertising industry’s Goafest 2012, to be held in the western Indian state of Goa from April 19-21.

9WSYR covered the on-campus announcement by U.S. Sen. Charles E. Schumer about support for postponing a rise in interest rates on federally-subsidized student loans. SU student Dylan Lustig is quoted. CNY Central and the Post-Standard also covered the announcement. The interest rate hike is scheduled for July.

The Post-Standard and 9WSYR’s ” Bridge Street” (view clip) previewed the Wednesday Ophelia’s Place “Coffee Talk” series hosting Harriet Brown, assistant professor of magazine journalism at the Newhouse School, to discuss family experiences with anorexia.

Kim Brown, alumni program coordinator in Syracuse University Career Services, is featured in a 9WSYR “Bridge Street” segment (view clip) discussing the benefits and logistics of blogging for professionals.

A Post-Standard “Consider This” feature notes the WISE Women’s Business Center and South Side Innovation Center as partners in the new Project Phoenix grant program for survivors of domestic violence who hope to become independent entrepreneurs.

The Sunday Post-Standard Stars magazine reviewed the “Pastoral” exhibition of landscape photography by Alexander Gromsky at the Robert B. Menschel Media Center. Two groups of photographs are currently on view in the facilities of Light Work and Community Darkrooms.

Leonard Burman, the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs at the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Bloomberg report on taxes and President Obama’s campaign promise for tax cuts.

Forbes quotes Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the Falk College, on marketing partnerships in an article on the Greenwash Gold 2012 campaign by social activists protesting corporate sponsors for the London Olympics.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, spoke with KPFK radio in Los Angeles discussing his Reuters column on state income taxes diverted and retained by companies. A podcast can be found here (part 3).

A Toronto Star story on “Oprah’s Lifeclass: The Tour” events featuring Oprah Winfrey at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre quotes Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, on Winfrey’s integrity and the reputation of the Oprah Winfrey Network cable channel.

Roosevelt “Rick” Wright, professor in the Newhouse School, is quoted in a Stamford Advocate (Conn.) article about the Connoisseur Media purchase of four Long Island radio stations.

A YNN report on taxes quotes Jeffrey Stonecash, professor of political science in the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences, on bipartisan tax reform and the gap between conservative and liberal members of Congress.
