A Post-Standard editorial today focused on the life of entertainment icon and Syracuse University alumnus Dick Clark ’51, who passed away on Wednesday. National print media outlets reporting on his passing include the AP, UPI, Christian Science Monitor, Washington Post, USA Today, New York Times, LA Times, the NY Post and the Philadelphia Inquirer, as well as national broadcast outlets, including MSNBC, CNN, ABC News, FOX News, WTOP Radio in Washington, D.C., and WCBS Radio in New York City. Local media reporting on Clark and his connection to SU included the Post-Standard, a Sean Kirst Post-Standard column, YNN, and 9WSYR.

The Post-Standard, Syracuse.com, 9WSYR, and YNN reported that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will visit the Maxwell School and SU campus on Monday, April 23, to meet with students and then engage in a policy conversation titled “America and the World” with Maxwell School Dean James Steinberg.

The Buffalo News reported on the Summer Institute for Human Rights and Genocide Studies and participation by David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law.

Sports Business Daily reported on the Falk College’s recent conference, “A Word to the WISE: Leveling the Playing Field.” The conference was presented by the Syracuse chapter of Women in Sports and Events (WISE).

The Baton Rouge Business Report featured an article on the inaugural Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) held earlier this spring at Louisiana State University. The report references the creation of the EBV in 2007 at the Whitman School of Management. The program is operated by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families.

Junior communications design students in the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ “Design Project Management” course presented their rebranding ideas for the Onondaga Creekwalk yesterday. The event was covered by the Post-Standard (plus video), CNY Central and YNN.

9WSYR’s “Bridge Street” featured a spring football preview and conversation with football Hall of Famer Floyd Little ’67, special assistant to the athletics director in SU Athletics.

The Post-Standard featured the science and math mentoring work by SU students through the Engineering Ambassadors Program, sponsored by the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science and SRC, a Central New York research company.

Author Tarell Alvin McCraney was profiled in Thursday’s Post-Standard. His play, “The Brothers Size,” opens at Syracuse Stage Friday.

The Post-Standard previewed the final season performance of SU’s Pulse Performing Arts Series, a concert by Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp, who sang in the Broadway musical “Rent.”

CNY Central (view clip) and the Post-Standard featured the School of Information Studies’ #140cuse Conference.

YNN reported on the “Conference on Engaging Community Support for Veterans” to help veterans in Central New York. It happened today at the Oncenter, hosted by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families. Also, Newsradio 570/106.9WSYR previewed the conference.

The La Casita Cultural Center’s exhibition “The Photographer as a Child: Memories of Guatemala” was featured in the Syracuse New Times.

FACULTY QUOTES

Eric Kingson, professor of social work in the Falk College, authored a commentary, “Before you write that Social Security is bankrupt….” for Nieman Watchdog, an on-line publication of the Nieman Foundation for Journalists at Harvard University.

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management, Falk College, was interviewed by CBC Radio on sponsorship of the London 2012 Olympics.

Evan Weissman, assistant professor of food studies in the Falk College and a board member of Syracuse Grows, was interviewed for an article in the Post-Standard about community gardening.

A Post-Standard story on the New York Assembly race between Al Stirpe and incumbent Don Miller quotes Jeffrey Stonecash, professor of political science in the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences.
