Newhouse student honored with major scholarship, internship

Laura Foti, a junior public relations major in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, has been named a 2012 New York Women in Communications Foundation Scholarship recipient. The $10,000 award includes an internship with the McGraw-Hill Co.

foti“I’m very honored to receive the scholarship,” Foti says. “This is not only validation for all of my hard work, but also motivation to continue pursuing a career in public relations.”

Foti is one of 18 scholarship recipients nationwide. They will be honored at the Matrix Awards luncheon on April 23 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. They will also appear on a live broadcast of NBC’s “Today” that morning.

Foti, who received the N. James Polney Award as a freshman, is director of finance for Hill Communications, Newhouse’s student-run public relations firm.

She has interned for minor league baseball team the Chatham Anglers and General Electric, and has studied in Argentina and Spain.

She plans to pursue a career in health care public relations.
