A 9WSYR (watch clip) segment featured the upcoming #140cuse Conference, to be presented April 19 by the School of Information Studies (iSchool) at SU’s Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center. Two iSchool students, David Rosen and Jessica Smith, appeared on the segment. The conference is the Syracuse area’s 140 Characters Conference event.

Photos and video from the College of Visual and Performing Arts printmaking program’s fifth annual “Steamroller Printing” event held Monday on the Kenneth A. Shaw Quad were published by Syracuse.com. Department of Art students and faculty inked large woodblocks to make relief prints on white cotton muslin.

The Watertown Daily Times reported on the announcement of the Syracuse Stage 2012-13 season, its 40th.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, was interviewed on KPCC radio’s “AirTalk” program for Southern California Public Radio in the Los Angeles area, discussing the AT&T and Verizon push to end their universal service obligation as “provider of last resort” for landlines. Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in a National Post (Canada) story about circumstances in which male athletes cry. Thompson is also quoted on Mike Wallace’s legacy in news as prime-time entertainment for a Christian Science Monitor article on the career of the recently deceased CBS journalist noted for setting high standards for long-form investigative journalism.

Mehrzad Boroujerdi, director of the Middle Eastern Studies Program in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and The College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in a Los Angeles Times article on the possibility of Iranian flexibility in upcoming international talks in Istanbul, Turkey, about its nuclear program.

LTER Network News quotes Charles T. Driscoll, University Professor of Environmental Systems Engineering in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science, in an article about the implications of research conducted by Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) sites. The article on long term climate change studies is also featured on the National Science Foundation’s Science360 News Service and in ASEE’s First Bell.

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the Falk College, contributed a column to the April 4 online edition of The Business Insider as part of its “Great Debate” series focused on the topic of whether or not college athletes should be paid.

Vito Sciscioli, Maxwell School part time instructor in metropolitan government and politics, commented for a 9WSYR (watch clip) report on pension costs for area municipal governments.

Gina Pauline, assistant professor of sport management in the Falk College and co-adviser of SU Chapter, Women in Sports and Events, authored a Post-Standard op-ed on challenges and opportunities for the next generation of female sport industry leaders. The op-ed precedes today’s WISE event “A Word to the WISE: Leveling the Playing Field.” The symposium will tackle common issues students face upon entering the sports industry.
