Syracuse Stage to cast local girl (age 9-13) for role of Susan Waverly in ‘White Christmas’

For the 2012 holiday production of White Christmas, Syracuse Stage will be casting a local actress (age 9-13) for the role of Susan Waverly, the granddaughter of General Waverly.

Description of role: Sweet, smart, a little precocious, genuinely concerned about her grandfather, and ultimately very likable, Susan Waverly is smitten with show business and wants nothing more than to be a performer. In “White Christmas,” Susan sings “Let Me Sing” and “I’m Happy,” both in Act Two.

Requirements: Vocal ability to sing up to a C above middle C. Some dance or movement background would be helpful but is not required.

What to prepare: a song that is bright and cheerful, ideally from the traditional musical theater catalogue (1920—1970). Pop material and contemporary musical theater should be avoided. See below for a list of suggested songs.

To schedule an audition: contact Chris Botek at Syracuse Stage, 315-443-4008 or cbotek@syr.edu by April 13. Auditions will take place starting mid-April.

SUGGESTED SONGS

“All I Do is Dream of You” (Singin’ in the Rain)
“Consider Yourself” (Oliver!)
“Gary, Indiana” (The Music Man)
“Getting to Know You” (The King and I)
“Good Morning” (Singin’ in the Rain)
“I’d Do Anything” (Oliver!)
“I Gotta Crow” (Peter Pan)
“I Got the Sun in the Morning” (Annie Get Your Gun)
“I Whistle a Happy Tune” (The King and I)
“Let’s Go Fly a Kite” (Mary Poppins)
“My Favorite Things” (The Sound of Music)
