SU faculty, staff invited to give blood to save lives and Beat UConn

The SU vs. UConn Blood Battle, sponsored by the American Red Cross and SU’s Division of Student Affairs, kicks off today (April 4) with blood donation events from 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in the Schine Student Center and from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in ESF’s Marshall Hall.

This year, donation events on two Thursdays—April 5 and April 19—have been dedicated to University employees in an effort to recruit faculty and staff for the effort. The drives take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. April 5 and 19 in Archbold Gymnasium. While employees are welcome to donate blood at any of the 12 “Blood Battle” events held on campus this month, the two Thursday events were set aside specifically to encourage employee participation in the cause and competition.

This is the third year SU has participated in the “Blood Battle” with UConn. The winner is determined by which school has the higher ratio of participation to enrollment. The first year, UConn won. Last year, SU won. Roll up your sleeve and help break the tie in SU’s favor this year. To make an appointment to donate blood, call 315-233-6010. Walk-ins also are welcome.

For more information about the SU vs. UConn Blood Battle and campus blood drives, contact Nancy Waite, Syracuse recruitment manager for the American Red Cross, at 607-239-9888 or waiten@usa.redcross.org.

Not everyone is eligible to donate blood, and it is not the only way to support this event. If you are interested in volunteering, in lieu of donating blood, please call 315-233-6010.
