Get ready for CallXpress®, SU’s new voice mail

If you’ve already initialized your new CallXpress voice mailbox, thank you! You don’t have to read any further. If you are a current voice mail user and have not initialized your new CallXpress voice mailbox, please READ ON!

SU’s new voice mail system – CallXpress® – will be activated on the evening of Wednesday, April 12. Once activated, calls to the SU voice mail access number (3-2527) will be directed to the new system.

CallXpress includes a new feature called Simple Unified Messaging (Simple UM), which allows you to receive an email notification and a WAV file of each voice mail message. Go to http://telecom.syr.edu for complete information, including detailed instructions.

Check your voice mail to get your personal introductory security code. Your personal introductory security code was sent to you in a voice mail message on Wednesday, March 14. This code is needed to initialize your new CallXpress voice mailbox. This message did not activate the “message waiting” indicator on your phone, so be sure to check your voice mail.

If you need to receive your personal introductory security code again, please send an email request with your name, campus phone number and SU email address to voicemail@syr.edu.  Please put “New Security Code” in the subject line.

Use your security code to initialize your new voice mailbox before April 4. Initialize your voice mailbox from your SU landline phone. This can be done at any time, preferably before the system is activated on the evening of April 4.

Initialization will take only a few minutes:

•     Dial into the system at 3-2578.  NOTE: If you have a generic mailbox (your mailbox number starts with 100) please call x2498 or email voicemail@syr.edu for further instructions.

•     Enter your Personal Introductory Security Code (from the March 14 voice mail message).

•     Follow the prompts to set up and personalize your mailbox with a new security code, and record your name and new greeting. Your new security code of four to 15 digits must have at least three unique digits, not contain your mailbox number and not form a simple numeric sequence (i.e., 12345).

•     After the mailbox is set up, the tutorial will continue with some shortcuts and tips for using the system.

After the new system is activated, any user who has not already done so will be required to initialize their mailbox the first time they dial into the voice mail system.

CallXpress will be ready by Thursday, April 5. You can begin using CallXpress that morning by calling the same phone number that you now use for voice mail: 3-2527 or 443-2527.
