The New York Times featured the Lubin House exhibition “Orange Pulp: the Pulp Magazine & Contemporary Culture.” “Orange Pulp” at the Palitz Gallery explores the world of pulp culture through 61 works that include correspondence, manuscript drafts, paintings and magazines. The exhibition draws from the collections of Syracuse University Library’s Special Collections Research Center and the SUArt Galleries.

In a companion article, several Syracuse University faculty members weigh in on the art and culture of the times in which the stage is set, and address Rothko’s process and philosophy as a working artist. Stephen Zaima, associate dean of global academic programs and initiatives in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA); and Luis Castañeda and Sascha Scott, both assistant professors in the department of art and music histories in The College of Arts and Sciences, offer commentary. The piece also notes the March 20 lecture to be presented by VPA in Shemin Auditorium with Sumi Hayashi, visiting curator of the Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art in Chiba, Japan, which holds a number of the original Rothko paintings that are the subject of the drama.
