SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Syracuse University’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) and Institute for Veterans and Military Families are mentioned in a Yahoo Finance post of an Entrepreneur magazine article on how military veterans are finding success in small business. IVMF executive director and EBV founder Mike Haynie and EBV-SU graduate John Raftery ’07 are quoted. Also, Baton Rouge’s Bayou Buzz and NBC-33 TV reported on Louisiana State University holding its inaugural EBV camp this week. The EBV was founded at SU’s Whitman School and is operated by SU’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families.

The Post-Standard reported on the arrangement whereby members from the College of Law’s Impunity Watch Journal serve as a class substitute twice a month in Syracuse schools to teach about law, government and other global issues.

9WSYR reported on the partnership between SU’s L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science and local company SRC for the LCS-SRC Engineering Ambassadors program, which helps Syracuse school students learn math and science skills needed to pursue engineering professions.

9WSYR’s “Bridge Street” program highlighted Otto’s Army student section and preparations for this weekend’s men’s basketball game against Louisville.

The Post-Standard reported on the Urban Video Project, Light Work and the Everson Museum of Art presenting the video “Flo Flow” (2011) by William Wegman. It will be the world premiere of the video, which was created specifically for UVP.

The Post-Standard previewed Friday’s dress rehearsal by the Paul Taylor Dance Company as part of SU’s ArtsEngage initiative.

The Syracuse New Times reviewed SU Drama’s production of Maxim Gorky’s “The Lower Depths.”

FACULTY QUOTES

Mehrzad Boroujerdi, director of the Middle Eastern Studies Program in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and The College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in the New York Times on the expected voter turnout for Iran’s upcoming parliamentary election.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, spoke with CNY Central about reality television’s place in popular culture.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, appeared on “Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman” to discuss Mitt Romney tax plans.
