Universal Studios president and COO Ron Meyer will visit the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications on Thursday, March 1. A Q-and-A with Meyer and Newhouse Professor of Practice Richard Dubin will take place at 3 p.m. in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse 3. Meyer will also take questions from the audience.

mayerDuring his visit, Meyer will have lunch with students and visit a television-radio-film class.

Meyer was appointed president and chief operating officer of Universal Studios on Aug. 1, 1995.

Prior to joining Universal Studios, Meyer was president of Creative Artists Agency Inc., which he founded in 1975 with four fellow agents from the William Morris Agency. Over the years they built the company into the pre-eminent talent agency, representing many of the industry’s most influential and talented people, and later expanding its range of services to include consulting with leading American and international corporations.

Previously, Meyer was a television agent with the William Morris Agency from 1970 to 1975. Prior to that, he worked as a messenger at the Paul Kohner Agency in Los Angeles from 1964 to 1970. Before joining the Paul Kohner Agency, Meyer served in the United States Marine Corps.

Meyer, a longtime supporter of the Newhouse School, has made several campus visits to meet and speak with students. He has also been a guest lecturer for Syracuse University’s LA Semester program, and has twice served as a luncheon co-chair for the Newhouse School’s Mirror Awards luncheon ceremony. He received an honorary degree from SU in 2010.

His talk is free and open to the public. Parking is available in SU pay lots. For more information, contact Jean Brooks at 315-443-5711 or jabroo01@syr.edu.
