Emmy-winning executive producer Sam Mettler, creator of the AETN television series “Intervention,” will visit Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications on Tuesday, Feb. 14. He will give a talk at 1:30 p.m. in the Miron Room in Newhouse 1. To RSVP, contact Mary Ann Durantini at 315-443-2150 or mmdurant@syr.edu. Follow on Twitter at #Mettler.

mettlerMettler has been a comedic writer, actor and occasional stand-up comedian, with guest starring roles on “The Drew Carey Show,” “The Norm Show” and multiple TV commercials. He built on these experiences and an early ‘90s stint as morning man radio host in Syracuse as he amassed small screen writing credits on “South Park,” MTV’s “Head-Trip” and Fox’s “Misguided Angels.”

With the rising popularity of reality-based programming, Mettler developed “Intervention,” which The New York Times called “a significant evolutionary moment in reality television.” Lauded by Oprah Winfrey, Larry King, “The Today Show,” “Good Morning America” and Howard Stern, the show is currently in its 10th season and has become one of AETN’s top shows in overall ratings and key demographics.

Mettler has won five Prism Awards for outstanding non-fiction program dedicated to the accurate portrayal of addiction on television and a commendation from the New England Association of Drug Court Professionals. In the last three years, Mettler has won a Telly Award, a Banff Rockie Award and a Burbank International Film Festival Awareness Award, and was twice nominated for a Producers Guild Award for outstanding reality program. He has been nominated twice and recently won the 2009 Emmy Award for outstanding reality program.

He has served as writer and producer for National Geographic’s “Expeditions to the Edge.”

He recently formed a production company, MadJack Entertainment, and continues to write, shoot, produce and develop scripts for broadcast networks and cable.
