David Heymann, general manager of the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center in Syracuse, is the recipient of the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association’s (NYSH&TA) 2012 Outstanding General Manager of the Year award (151 Rooms or More). Heymann will be recognized at the association’s 2012 Stars of the Industry Gala & Awards Banquet at the Hotel Albany, an affiliate of Hilton, on Monday, March 5.

The Stars of the Industry awards program honors employees of the hotels, motels and tourism-related businesses throughout the state who best represent the quality service and spirit of the hospitality and tourism industry.

“Every year, the state’s hospitality industry nominates its most outstanding employees. After reviewing all of the nominations submitted, the judges agreed that David Heymann was the best of the best,” says NYSH&TA President Jan Marie Chesterton. “All the winners of this year’s awards are STARS in every sense of the word and shining examples of what New York state hospitality is all about.”

The Outstanding General Manager of the Year award honors a hotelier who has demonstrated superior professionalism and taken a leadership role in the industry by actively participating in association, community or industry programs.

During his 12-year term as general manager of the Sheraton, Heymann has led the hotel to numerous national awards and brand distinctions, including the Top Sheraton Hotel in North America for Overall Guest Satisfaction and the No. 1 Sheraton Franchise Hotel in the Northeast.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to NYSH&TA for recognizing me as General Manager of the Year,” says Heymann. “I am honored to have been nominated by my leadership team at the Sheraton. The award truly means a lot to me and my family.”

Heymann is also active in several associations and organizations. He is currently the president of the Greater Syracuse Hospitality & Tourism Association, and serves on the boards and committees of Centerstate CEO (formerly the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce), the Greater Syracuse Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Crouse Marshall Business Development Committee of the University Hill Corp. and the Leukemia Foundation.
