Doug Craig, senior vice president of digital and home entertainment with Discovery Communications, will visit the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications on Wednesday, Feb. 15 as a guest of the Newhouse Global Leaders in Digital and Social Media Speaker Series. He will speak on “Digital and Social TV: The Power of Real-Time Engagement” at 6 p.m. in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse 3. His talk is free and open to the public. Parking is available in SU pay lots. Follow the talk on Twitter at #NewhouseGLDSM.

craigCraig oversees video production for Discovery’s portfolio of digital platforms and manages key digital syndication businesses. He is also responsible for Discovery’s home entertainment business and the programming of Discovery’s mobile platform and broadband syndication offerings. He works across the company’s business units to develop digital programming and promotional packages. Under his direction, the company produced nearly 10,000 short-form clips in 2008 for distribution across various platforms, its video-on-demand and mobile services, and through online syndication partnerships with various video-sharing destinations.

Senior vice president since 2007, he played a strategic executive role in the growth of Discovery Mobile and Discovery on Demand.

He joined Discovery in 1997 as manager of programming research. He was later named vice president of programming and scheduling for Discovery’s Animal Planet. He was a manager of research at MTV Networks in Los Angeles and a client service executive at Nielsen Media Research in New York.

At Newhouse, Craig will discuss the ways in which digital and social media have changed how people view and interact with television, and how that in turn affects how television and video are created, deployed and measured.

For more information about his talk, contact Betsy Feeley at 315-443-7401 or eafeeley@syr.edu.
