SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

MSNBC previewed tonight’s New York City event honoring the life and accomplishments of SU alumnus and Heisman Trophy winner Ernie Davis ’62 upon the 50 th anniversary of Davis being the first African American to win the award.

New York Magazine highlighted School of Architecture Dean Mark Robbins’ participation in the New York City event “The Greatest Grid: The Master Plan of Manhattan, 1811-2011.”

The Post-Standard, YNN, 9WSYR, and CNY Central reported on the CNY Regional Economic Council, co-chaired by SU Chancellor Nancy Cantor and CenterState CEO’s Rob Simpson, winning $103.7 million in state funding for the Central New York region. The Central NY Regional Economic Council’s strategic plan was selected as the No. 1 plan across the state and was awarded the most funding of any region.

SU Public Safety Chief Anthony Callisto spoke with CNY Central about SU’s preparedness for preventing and dealing with crisis situations on campus.

9WSYR’s “Bridge Street” recently featured a segment on Syracuse University’s Seventh Annual Charity Sports Auction to benefit the new Upstate Cancer Center, to be held on Saturday, Dec. 10. A separate segment featured SU student Nabeel Alamgir on best holiday gifts for college students.

FACULTY QUOTES

The Columbia Journalism Review quotes David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, on the New York State Court of Appeals’ ruling in favor of the state’s corporate welfare giving.

Reuters quoted Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, on former GOP candidate Herman Cain and his campaign.
