The LGBT Resource Center within the Division of Student Affairs has appointed Tiffany Gray as its new associate director. Gray will begin the position on Jan. 1, 2012.
“I am beyond excited to work in collaboration with Tiffany,” says D. Chase James Catalano, director of the LGBT Resource Center. “She is an outstanding professional with amazing skills, talents and energy. Her addition to the LGBT Resource Center team will make us a stronger center and help us shape the future directions of our vision and mission.”
Gray’s primary responsibilities will including assisting the director in all activities to promote diversity, inclusion and equity with an emphasis on LGBTQ identities in the areas of leadership, program development, discussion groups and technology administration for the LGBT Resource Center. She will work very closely with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to develop cooperative initiatives and training programs, as well as provide direct supervision of graduate assistants and students who work at the LGBT Center.
“As Student Affairs educators, it is our collective responsibility to create safe spaces and opportunities for cross-cultural dialogue to occur,” says Gray. “We must acknowledge the complexity of multiple identities and how they impact our ability to be in community. I am excited to join the LGBT Resource Center team in efforts to promote inclusion, education and advocacy for the students, staff, faculty and the greater Syracuse community.”
Gray brings a strong student-development focus and passion about social justice education, both qualities that will inform and enhance her work at SU. She has experience teaching undergraduate leadership courses, and coupled with her collaborative student affairs approach, this will make her an integral addition to the LGBT Resource Center staff.
Currently, Gray serves as a residence life coordinator for Beaujolais Village at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, Calif., where she manages a residential community of 650 continuing and transfer students. Prior to her role at Sonoma State University, Gray held residence life positions at Quinnipiac University, Binghamton University and University of Dayton. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Toledo and a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in college student personnel from the University of Dayton.
