Author, journalist Robert Levine to speak Oct. 27

Author and journalist Robert Levine, who most recently served as executive editor of the influential music business trade magazine Billboard, will present a lecture on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 6:45 p.m. in the Lender Auditorium, located on the concourse level of the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. The lecture is part of the Bandier Program’s Soyars Leadership Lecture Series in the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ (VPA) Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music. It is open to the University community only.

Levine has been covering pop culture, technology and the awkward dance between them for 15 years. In addition to serving as executive editor of Billboard, he has been a features editor at New York Magazine and Wired. His writing has appeared in Vanity Fair, Fortune, Rolling Stone and the arts and business sections of the New York Times. He has offered commentary on the media business for CNN, CNBC and VH-1 and spoken at the CMJ music conference in New York City and the World Copyright Summit in Brussels.

Levine’s first book, “Free Ride: How the Internet is Destroying the Culture Business and How the Culture Business Can Fight Back” (Doubleday, 2011), was called “brilliant if depressing” by the Times (U.K.) and garnered praise from the Guardian and the Financial Times. He now covers the culture business from New York and Berlin.
