Syracuse University Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) statistics are cited in an Associated Press article on cuts and reassignments of prosecutors in the U.S. Department of Justice. TRAC data is also mentioned in a Portland Press Herald (Portland, Maine) story on the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project, an area group assisting asylum seekers.

Broadway World previewed the upcoming Stone Canoe literary showcase in New York City.

The Post-Standard Stars magazine reviewed “Drawn to Paint: The Art of Jerome Witkin” at the SUArt Galleries and XL Projects.

The “Healthy Monday” campaigns developed by SU alumnus Sid Lerner were featured inYNN and Post-Standard reports, noting the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications as the first adopter of the campaigns. A Post-Standard editorial also highlighted the announcement of the Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion at the Maxwell School.

A Post-Standard feature highlighted two SU alumnae, Donna Shalala G’70 and Kathrine Switzer ’68, being inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, N.Y. Shalala is former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and now president of the University of Miami, and Switzer was the first woman to complete the Boston Marathon in 1967, later becoming a TV broadcaster and running advocate.

The Post-Standard, 9WSYR and YNN reported that M&T Bank will donate the former Syracuse Symphony Orchestra’s sheet music-considered to be a valuable asset-to VPA’s Setnor School of Music.

Also, the Post-Standard Stars magazine “Encore” section makes note of Patrick Jones, director of the Setnor School of Music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA); Daniel Hege, VPA professor of practice; the Syracuse Youth Orchestra and the Syracuse Youth String Orchestra, and their respective conductors, James Tapia, director of orchestral activities at Setnor, and VPA instructor Muriel Bodley; La Casita Cultural Center; and Syracuse Stage. Also, a photo of Inmaculada Lara-Bonilla, assistant professor of Spanish in The College of Arts and Sciences and La Casita co-founder and director, appeared in the section.

Rachel May, sustainability education coordinator at SU, co-authored a Post-Standard opinion column on how the Central New York region can capitalize on the green, energy-saving ideas modeled in other regions.

The SU Warehouse is mentioned in a Saturday Post-Standard column on regionally authentic architecture.

Wayne Franits, professor of art history in The College of Arts and Sciences, was cited in the Art Daily electronic journal announcement of the Vermeer based show in Cambridge.

John M. Torrens, assistant professor of entrepreneurial practice in the Whitman School of Management, is quoted in a Business News Daily article on creating clear business plans.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, appeared on MSNBC’s “Ed Show” to discuss the myth that highest incomes pay the highest tax rates. Also, a Johnston commentary on jobs, free trade and the income gap between men and women posted in a Truthdig Radio segment; his Reuters column on gender income inequity is cited in a Caledonia Patch (Wis.) report; and a Rochester Democrat & Chronicle editorial on millionaires and taxes cites his Reuters column on tax evasion in New York State.

Syracuse iSchool Professor David Lankes is quoted in the Christian Science Monitor on Amazon’s new Kindle Fire tablet, and on rising circulation in a Times Herald (Port Huron, Mich.) story about St. Clair County libraries.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in ESPN on the NBA lockout.

Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School is quoted in a CNN Money story on taxes, jobs and rhetoric, and authored Forbes blog posts on the Buffet Rule and on health insurance mandates.

Mark Monmonier, distinguished professor of geography at the Maxwell School, is quoted on racially offensive location names in a Washington Post story on presidential candidate Rick Perry’s family hunting camp. Monmonier’s 2006 book on offensive place names is also referenced in a Slate article.
