Syracuse University Library to host cookbook collection event

The Library Associates of Syracuse University Library will celebrate the addition of Joan Green’s extensive cookbook collection to the SU Library with a reception called “Joan’s Table” on Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Crowne Plaza Syracuse Hotel from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at $40 per person by calling 315 443-8782.

The idea of “Joan’s Table” emerged after a Syracuse University Library Associates’ committee met to plan an event to thank Green for her generous donation of 2,000 cookbooks to the SU Library’s Special Collections. For Green, this has meant facing the
challenge of categorizing her treasure trove of books and preparing them for their move to a new and appreciative home.

This event is a terrific chance to celebrate Green’s renowned love of cooking and hospitality while making a wonderful contribution to the SU Library Associates and its support of the SU Library’s Special Collections. The evening promises to be one of good company, wine and light refreshments, and a unique conversation with Green as she speaks about her collection, how it started, and, as she said, “How it took over my life.”

Green is well known for her dramatic presentation of her many favorite dishes. By purchasing a ticket to “Joan’s Table” you will be entered to win one of Green’s special serving dishes complete with a recipe that was served in the dish or an anecdote from a dinner party where the piece was featured–a very tasty and tempting recipe for a great
time!
