Sept. 28-30 outdoor recycling display to make it easier to ‘go green’

The Syracuse University Sustainability Division will be showcasing a display of recyclable materials on the lawn between the Schine Student Center and Newhouse School, from Sept. 28-30. The display will help educate the University community about which materials are recyclable in the City of Syracuse.

“The green space will be lined with various recyclable material and recycling posters will be displayed,” says Hannah Morgan, Sustainability Division research intern. “The Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) provided 50 blue bins for the display to promote recycling among the student population.” The goal of this display is to create awareness about recycling efforts on campus and to educate students about what is recyclable.

“A lot of SU students are from out of town and they don’t know what to recycle in the city of Syracuse,” says Morgan. “This display will teach them about recycling in Syracuse and, hopefully, students will make an effort to recycle more.”

Throughout the academic year–as a part of its “Year of Recycling”–the Sustainability Division has planned many other events and projects to promote recycling on campus. The Sustainability Division will be showing documentary films throughout the semester, beginning with the Academy Award nominee for best documentary feature film “Food, Inc.” on Sept. 29, at 8 p.m. in Watson Theater.
