Women of the University Community hosts fall gathering Oct. 3, encourages new membership

The Women of the University Community (WUC) fall gathering will be held on Monday, Oct. 3, from 5-6:30 p.m. in the atrium of the Life Sciences Building. The annual event provides an opportunity for members of the Syracuse University, SUNY-ESF and SUNY Upstate Medical University communities a chance to hear an overview of what the WUC is all about and to consider becoming a member.

Established at SU in 1927, the WUC is an inclusive organization that offers friendship and fellowship to current/retired faculty, staff or trustees, their spouses/widows, and enrolled graduate students and their spouses from the SU, SUNY-ESF and Upstate communities. The WUC organizes special events throughout the academic year, sponsors interest groups that meet regularly and organizes projects to raise funds for three scholarships for women who attend SU, SUNY-ESF and Upstate. These include the Mildred Eggers Award, presented to students in continuing education studying part-time at SU’s University College; the Ruth Tolley Award, presented to outstanding juniors in SU’s David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics; and the Beverly Whaley Scholarship, presented to a sophomore or junior studying at SUNY-ESF.

To RSVP for the fall gathering, contact Tina Casella, WUC vice president, at (315) 622-4138 or cscasell@syr.edu.

The WUC requests that those attending the event from the SU, SUNY-ESF or Upstate communities leave their cars parked in their home lots and walk to the event, to allow parking for those attending from off campus. If you require parking, please send your name and contact information to Pauline Saraceni, WUC president, at psaracen@syr.edu.
