PR exec Bill Doescher G’61 to visit Newhouse Sept. 20

Bill Doescher G’61, president and CEO of The Doescher Group, will visit the Newhouse School on Sept. 20 as a guest of the public relations department. He will present “Embracing Change: 50 Years in Public Relations” at 7 p.m. in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse 3. His talk is free and open to the public. Parking is available in SU pay lots. Follow the event on Twitter at #Doescher.

DoescherDoescher, an alumnus and longtime friend of the Newhouse School, is a member of the Newhouse Advisory Board and also advises the Newhouse Executive Master’s in Communications Management. The Doescher Campaigns Lab for Advertising and Public Relations, located in Newhouse 1, was dedicated in 1998, and the Doescher Award is granted each year to the top master’s degree student in public relations.

In addition to being president and CEO of the Doescher Group, a communications consulting firm that also conducts executive searches in a number of industries, Doescher is a senior associate with StevensGouldPincus, a communications merger and management consulting firm.

He was previously with Dun & Bradstreet for 22 years, including as senior vice president and chief communications officer, as well as publisher of D&B Reports, a magazine for small business management. He was previously affiliated with Inmont Corp., Drexel Heritage Furnishings, Champion International and Chase Manhattan Bank in a variety of communications positions.

He received the Philip Dorf award from the New York Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America in 2009 for mentoring Newhouse students and recent graduates, as well as others from other colleges.

He has been active as a volunteer in the public relations field and with a number of nonprofit organizations, and as an adjunct professor and lecturer at a number of universities, including Columbia University, New York University, the University of Maryland and Iona College, as well as the Newhouse School.

A former president of the Public Relations Society of America Foundation, he currently serves on the board of PRSA-New York and the board of directors and executive committee of the Jackie Robinson Foundation. He is chairman emeritus of the Scarsdale Historical Society and a past board of trustees member of Utica College and dozens of other organizations.
