For 2012, the Syracuse Poster Project will supplement its traditional poster series with a poster marking the 50th anniversary of Onondaga Community College. The project now invites Central New York poets to submit haiku poems to both the special and traditional aspects of the poster series. The submission deadline is Sept. 9

Each year the project brings together artists from Syracuse University and poets from the community to create a series of 16 posters for the poster panels of downtown Syracuse. Each poster features an illustrated poem about the downtown, city or nearby countryside.

This year the project will create 14 posters the traditional way, in which the poems come first and the illustrations second, and one poster the reverse way, in which the illustration comes first and the poem second.

Skip Frost, an art instructor at Onondaga Community College, painted the accompanying image of the college campus to serve the reverse aspect of the project. Poets may write haiku on Syracuse subjects of their choice and or a haiku to complement the painting of the campus.

The project announces the selected poets in December, then proceeds with final production of the posters, which appear in April.
