SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Mangalorean, Scienceblog, and NSF’s Science360.com reported on the research by a team from Syracuse University’s College of Arts and Sciences and Yale University that provides a much clearer picture of the Earth’s temperature approximately 50 million years ago when CO2 concentrations were higher than today.

Diverse Issues in Higher Education reported on the involvement of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in Syracuse Grows, a grassroots coalition focused on improving access to healthy food in cities through gardening and urban agriculture.

The Washington Independent and American Independent cited a report from SU’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) in an article on the number of criminal immigration prosecutions in the first six months of fiscal year 2011.

The Syracuse New Times reported that Chancellor Nancy Cantor was a recipient of the Wisdom Keeper Award, presented by FOCUS Greater Syracuse to engaged citizens who have shown true leadership and continual caring while educating others about the responsibilities of taking trusteeship of their community.

The Madison County Courier reported on Milton C. Sernett, professor emeritus of history and African American studies in the Maxwell School and College of Arts and Sciences, receiving an honorary degree from Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn.

FACULTY QUOTES

The Oregonian quotes Lynn Brann, assistant professor of nutrition science and dietetics in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, on introducing healthy foods to toddlers in daycare settings.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in the Philadelphia Daily News on media coverage of the Casey Anthony trial. Thompson is also quoted in WKBW in Jamestown, N.Y., on preparations for the 100th birthday celebration of the late Lucille Ball in Jamestown, the actress’s hometown.

SU alumnus Rami Khouri ’70, G’98, director of the Issam Fares Institute of Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut and editor-at-large of the Beirut-based Daily Star newspaper, is quoted in a Huffington Post entry on threats to Zionism and the Jewish state of Israel.

Thomas Dennison, professor of practice in public administration in the Maxwell School, is quoted in the Post-Standard on the da Vinci robot as an example of the kind of technology that has triggered a “medical arms race” among hospitals.
