The Citizens Academy is now accepting applications for the free eight-week program to learn how our local governments work, how individuals can get involved and effect change, and how they can help create the future of their community.

The Citizens Academy is an interactive educational program that informs citizens of Onondaga County about how local governments are organized, and how services are funded and delivered. It is a place to learn about citizen involvement through an integrated approach to economic vitality, social equity and a healthy environment.

The class is limited to 35 members, and is open to citizens of the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County ages 18 or older. Participation is free. Fill out an application online at http://www.citizensacademycny.org. The application deadline is Aug. 5. Classes start on Tuesday, Sep. 20, and end on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

For more information, call 315-448-8732 or email focus@ci.syracuse.ny.us.

Citizens Academy was created and is administered by FOCUS Greater Syracuse and University College of Syracuse University.
