Junko Therese Takeda, assistant professor of history in the Maxwell School, wrote “Between Crown and Commerce: Marseille and the Early Modern Mediterranean” (Johns Hopkins University Press). It explores the Mediterranean economy of the 17th and 18th centuries as it relates to French royal statecraft, mercantilism, and civic republicanism.
