Mediabistro and Yahoo! News reported on the Newhouse School’s fifth annual Mirror Awards luncheon honoring excellence in media industry reporting.

The Wall Street Journal reported on the recent report by SU’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) on pending immigration court cases continuing to be backlogged.

The Watertown Daily Times reported on SU’s role in the testing of a new invention that uses ultraviolet light to kill airborne germs in medical facilities. The inventor, Haledyne Inc. of Syracuse, was recently awarded a grant through the SyracuseCoE and EPA as part of the Technology Application and Demonstration (TAD 2011) awards program.

The Post-Standard and CNY Central reported on the fourth annual Sportscaster U, a three-day program in sports broadcasting taking place this week at the Newhouse School.

The Post-Standard previewed the ninth annual Duck Race to End Racism, an event to be held at Syracuse Inner Harbor to benefit the Community Wide Dialogue to End Racism. The event will be held on Saturday, and is co-sponsored by Syracuse University and National Grid.

Tiffany Steinwert, dean of Hendricks Chapel, authored a commentary in the Post-Standard on John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement.

FACULTY QUOTES

Ruth Small, professor at the Syracuse University School of Information Studies (iSchool), was recently interviewed by Literacy 2.0 about the Center for Digital Literacy (CDL), which she founded in 2003.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, spoke on MSNBC’s “Ed Show” (view clip) last night about the 10th anniversary of Bush tax cuts. He also authored a column for Nieman Watchdog and Tax.com column on the Formula 1 race car subsidy in Texas. And he is mentioned in a San Marcos Mercury column on the history of Medicare Part D.

Businessweek quotes Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School, on the Tim Pawlenty tax plan.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in the Globe & Mail (Canada) on the Congressman Anthony Weiner scandal. He is also quoted in WWJ-AM (Detroit) on children and media consumption.

Kristi Andersen, Chapple Family Professor of Citizenship and Democracy at the Maxwell School, is quoted in the Ithaca Journal on the number of New York congressmen whose political careers have been impacted by sex scandals.
