The New Yorker highlighted the exhibition “Pa Bouje Ankò: Don’t Move Again,” currently at Lubin House’s Palitz Gallery. The exhibition, supported by Light Work, features black-and-white portraits taken by Laura Heyman, associate professor in the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ Department of Transmedia, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in the months before and after the earthquake of January 2010.

Eagle Publications reported on Syracuse City School District students participating in the Say Yes After School program as part of the Say Yes to Education Young Authors Series. Three children’s books were written, illustrated and published. James Ransome, assistant professor in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, and VPA illustration students also contributed to the books.

Reports of the naming of Joel Kaplan, associate dean of professional graduate studies at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, as new obmudsman for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting include coverage by the Associated Press, the Poynter Romenesko column, Post-Standard and the Broadcasting & Cable website.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in a Journal Gazette (Fort Wayne, Ind.) story on recent news anchor transitions, with Scott Pelley replacing Katie Couric at CBS and the PBS NewsHour broadcasting without Robert MacNeil or Jim Lehrer.

The Sowetan (Johannesburg, South Africa) reviewed “Barack Obama and 21st Century Politics: A Revolutionary Moment in the USA” (Pluto Press, 2010), written by Horace Campbell, professor of African American Studies and political science in The College of Arts and Sciences.
