The San Antonio Business Journal reported on the Veterans as Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE) training program, the first of which took place recently in San Antonio for female veterans and entrepreneurs. V-WISE is a program offered by the Whitman School of Management, in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration, which helps women veterans launch startups or grow existing businesses.

Syracuse University is mentioned in a Kansas City Star profile of Thom Filicia, a 1994 alumnus of the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

The Next Web blog mentioned the convocation address by iSchool alumnus Dennis Crowley ’98, founder of Foursquare.

YNN News, Post-Standard, 9WSYR, CNY Central, WAER-AM and WSYR-AM reported on SU’s 157^th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, and the graduation activities and convocations from the weekend. A Post-Standard photo feature highlights Sunday’s ceremony.

The Post-Standard reported on the low tuition rate increase at SU, and the declining rates of tuition increases at colleges and universities nationwide.

YNN reported on the Commencement address delivered by Delaware Attorney General Joseph R. “Beau” Biden III, a 1994 graduate of the College of Law.

Sari Knopp Biklen, Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence in the School of Education, is quoted on NPR’s “Weekend Edition Sunday” on national teacher appreciation week and the status of the teaching profession.

SU alumnus Rami Khouri ’70, G’98, director of the Issam Fares Institute of Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut and editor-at-large of the Beirut-based Daily Star newspaper, is quoted in ABC News on the fall of Hosni Mubarak’s regime in Egypt.

Arlene Kanter, Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence in the College of Law, authored a column for the Jerusalem Post on the need for adequate education and employment for people with disabilities in Israel.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in an Associated Press story on Mary Hart’s departure from “Entertainment Tonight.” Thompson is also quoted in American Public Radio’s “Marketplace” on national television network ratings, and in the Los Angeles Times on television and fashion. He is also quoted in the Boston Globe on television programs reaching Hispanic audiences, and in the Christian Science Monitor on actor Ashton Kutcher joining the TV program “Two and a Half Men.”

Eric Kingson, professor of social work in the School of Social Work in the College of Human Ecology, is mentioned in an Arkansas Times blog on the release of the 2011 Trustees Report by the Strengthen Social Security Campaign.

David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law, published an op-ed in JURIST on the formula to determine the legality of the military operation that killed Osama bin Laden.

Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, is quoted in NY1 on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s proposal on ethics reform.

Michael D’Eredita, assistant professor at the iSchool, authored a column for the Post-Standard on teaching entrepreneurship and Syracuse as a base for growing startups.
