ArtsEmerging at Syracuse Stage presents ‘Perceptions’
Works written and performed by students from Nottingham and Fowler high schools will be presented at Syracuse Stage at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17. The works were created as part of a year-long ArtsEmerging program called “Perceptions,” which culminated in the creation of works that represent urban school communities in relation to Stage’s fall 2010 production of “No Child …” The presentation of “Perceptions” is free and open to the public and will take place in the Storch Theatre. Refreshments will be provided following the presentation.

Each year, Syracuse Stage partners with Syracuse City schools to give students a unique and in-depth arts experience. Through a multi-arts, cross-curricular lens, students explore themes and topics within the mainstage season. Teachers work hand-in-hand with staff to design an integrated curriculum tailored to their particular goals.
In September of 2010, Syracuse City high school students had the opportunity to see Syracuse Stage’s production of “No Child…” by Nilaja Sun, a one-woman play exploring the struggles and celebrating the miracles of America’s public schools. Capitalizing on the theme of urban school community, Syracuse Stage’s Educational Outreach Department worked with students from Fowler and Nottingham to create representations of their own schools.
