The Post-Standard reported that legendary musician Quincy Jones has agreed to work with Say Yes to Education in the development of a new “American music curriculum” for the Syracuse City School District. Jones and Chancellor Nancy Cantor will be honored this evening at a Say Yes to Education gala in Manhattan.

The Post-Standard mentioned Chancellor Nancy Cantor in an article on the formal discussions to determine the future of Interstate 81 in Syracuse.

Donald Saleh, vice president for enrollment management, is quoted in a Fox Business report on tips for limiting student debt.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald (Iowa) reported that Mara Sapon-Shevin, professor of inclusive education in the teaching and leadership department of the School of Education, delivered the keynote address for the Clarke University Education Department’s conference.

Today’s “Bridge Street” program (view clip) on 9WSYR featured an interview with SU’s Elizabeth Mitchell, a junior in The College of Arts and Sciences, and Nabeel Alamgir, a first-year student in Arts and Sciences, for their leadership in helping SU beat UConn in the recent blood donation challenge, which benefits the Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse.

9WSYR reported on the test of the Orange Alert siren system scheduled for today at 4:30 p.m.

The Eagle profiled news correspondent and ex-hostage Terry Anderson, noting he will teach international journalism in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in the fall.

FACULTY QUOTES

Menachem Z. Rosensaft, distinguished visiting lecturer at Syracuse University College of Law, authored a New York Post column about Bergen-Belsen in Germany for the 66th anniversary of the liberation of that Nazi concentration camp.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in the Chicago Tribune on the reinstallation of the “Tin Man” atop King Heating and Air Conditioning in Oak Forest, Ill. He is also quoted in the Christian Science Monitor on television news journalist Scott Pelley replacing Katie Couric on the CBS Evening News.

Roy Gutterman, associate professor of communications law and journalism at the Newhouse School, is quoted in the Port Chester, N.Y. Patch on local government budget talks being conducted in the public.

The Syracuse New Times quoted Peter Wilcoxen, associate professor of economics and public administration at the Maxwell School, about the possibility of a New York state gas tax holiday.

YNN interviewed Miriam Elman, associate professor of political science in the Maxwell School, on celebrations of Osama bin Laden’s death.

Anthony Rotolo, iSchool assistant professor of practice, is quoted in YNN on the news of Osama bin Laden’s death being broken through social media.
