The LA Daily News and Associated Press featured “Wretches and Jabberers,” a documentary on the travels of disability rights advocates Tracy Thresher and Larry Bissonnette, co-produced by Douglas Biklen, dean of Syracuse University’s School of Education.

U.S. News & World Report‘s online “Science” page republished a College of Arts and Sciences research story, “Using Heat To Trace Groundwater Pollution,” which features the work of Laura Lautz, assistant professor of earth sciences, and SU’s Clean Water Initiative. The Clean Water Initiative seeks to advance critical research on water resources, quality, infrastructure and public policy locally, regionally, nationally and globally.

Yesterday’s announcement by the EPA at SU’s Warehouse, which recognized the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County as a top EPA green community, was covered by YNN News, WSYR 9, CNY Central, the Post Standard, WSYR-AM, WRVO-AM, and WAER-AM. With the announcement, local leaders are now collaborating to complete 50 green planning projects in the Syracuse area this year, including sustainable projects on the Near Westside. The WSYR-AM segment credited Chancellor Cantor’s leadership in the development of the Near Westside.

The Post-Standard previewed this weekend’s campus screening of “Air Guitar Nation,” which is part of involvement of the Department of Art and Music Histories in The College of Arts and Sciences with the first air guitar competition in Syracuse.

The Post-Standard reported on the “Non-Traditional Modes” class offered by the Transmedia program in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), which aims to get students to produce art that would be seen outside the framework of a traditional gallery show.

The Syracuse New Times previewed SU Showcase, which will highlight student work relating to the theme of environmental sustainability on Monday, May 2, in the Schine Student Center.

The Syracuse New Times reported on the exhibition by visiting artists Cannonball Press at XL Projects, as well as the steamroller printmaking event on the Quad, both sponsored by the printmaking program in VPA.

Mike Cahill, director of SU Career Services, spoke with CNY Central about graduates’ best approaches to a tough job market.

Lauren Unbekant, Syracuse Stage education director and VPA instructor, was interviewed on 9WSYR‘s “Bridge Street” program, discussing the Syracuse Stage Backstory programs touring Central New York. The current Backstory titled “Nikola Tesla: The Forgotten Wizard” portrays an imagined encounter between the legendary wizard Merlin and Tesla, the father of modern electricity, and is presented in collaboration with the MOST.

FACULTY QUOTES

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, was mentioned in a Reuters article on the popularity of his recent syndicated column on taxes.

Robert Colley, associate dean at SU’s University College, commented in the Post-Standard on Syracuse poet Elizabeth Twiddy.
