The Sacramento Bee, Hartford Business, Centre Daily Times, WCTV (Tallahassee, Fla.), Norwalk Plus, and iStockAnalyst reported on the White House recognition of the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV)—a program founded in 2007 at the Whitman School of Management—during the launch of Joining Forces, a new national initiative spearheaded by first lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden to support and honor service members and their families. Mentioned as part of the Joining Forces launch was Walmart and Sam’s Club’s Military Families Promise initiative, through which EBV receives a $1 million grant to the EBV Foundation.

An Associated Press article cited information from Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) on how to fix the crisis in immigration courts.

The Post-Standard reported on the student-led Project Paper Crane initiative that is raising awareness and funds for Japan earthquake relief.

The Central New York Business Journal reported on the student startups that won a combined $70,000 in seed funding at the second annual Emerging Talk event earlier this month.

Eric Kingson, professor of social work in the College of Human Ecology’s School of Social Work, recently released two letters to President Barack Obama–one signed by 276 academics and experts and the other representing 300 organizations in the Strengthen Social Security coalition. This news was covered by the Wall Street Journal’s “Washington Wire”. Kingson also spoke with CBS Radio News, and with NPR in Jacksonville, Fla.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, spoke with American Public Media’s “Marketplace” radio program about tax reductions and increases as part of the federal budget. He also spoke with KQED public radio in San Francisco. Additionally, Johnston authored a column “9 Things The Rich Don’t Want You To Know About Taxes,” which is appearing in publications across the country, including the cover story for Willamette Week.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in the Calgary Herald on copyrights gone too far. He is also quoted in the Washington Post on the death of Tiger Beat magazine’s founder.

MSNBC quotes Len Burman, Daniel Patrick Moynihan Professor of Public Affairs in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, on proposals for long-term federal deficit reduction and the budget.

Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Bloomberg article on New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s leadership style.

Mark Monmonier, distinguished professor of geography in the Maxwell School, is quoted in a Post-Standard editorial on the proposed Onondaga County redistricting plan.
