She’s the First*{Syracuse} is holding a benefit concert on April 14 from 7-11 p.m. at Funk ‘N Waffles.
The event, Music for Mbithe, will raise money to send kindgergartner Mbithe Pius to school at the Kibera School for Girls in Kenya. Mbithe will be the first in her family to graduate.
For $3, students can enjoy performances by singer-songwriter Andrew Parker-Renga, and a number of SU student musicians.
Additionally, She’s the First*{Syracuse} is competing in a college fundraising competition sponsored by philanthropic organization Vivanista. If She’s The First raises more money than any other competitor, the group will be awarded a $1,000 prize that will go directly toward funding Mbithe’s education.
She’s the First*{Syracuse} invites SU students and members of the community to join in a night of music, food and supporting girls’ education worldwide.
She’s the First*{Syracuse} is the SU branch of national nonprofit organization She’s the First. The group is devoted to promoting the importance of girls’ education in the developing world.
