Alvarez named communications manager for Whitman School

Jaime Winne Alvarez has been named communications manager for the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. Alvarez has worked at SU in the Office of News Services since 2004. She joins the Whitman School on May 2. 

jaimeAlvarez will oversee Whitman’s public relations and marketing strategy, develop and produce all external publications and non-print media, write and edit speeches and presentations for the dean and administrators, implement communications strategies and materials to support admissions, collaborate with Whitman IT on content and design of the school website and social media, liaison with local and national business media to promote the Whitman brand, manage the communications budget and ensure consistent graphic identity standards. She will also attend and represent Whitman at national and regional conferences.   

In SU News Services, Alvarez worked on media campaigns and communications projects to increase the University’s visibility in local, regional and national outlets. She provided communications support for a variety of campus initiatives, programs and clients, including the Pulse Performing Arts Series, Near Westside Initiative, Connective Corridor, Orange Central, Office of the University Arts Presenter, Center for Health and Behavior and Institute for the Study of the Judiciary, Politics and the Media, in addition to serving as editor of Orange CNY, an e-newsletter distributed to local alumni and friends of the University. 

Alvarez recently completed a freelance position as interim director of communications and media relations for the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications’ fifth annual Mirror Awards competition, honoring excellent in media industry reporting. She also served as a preliminary judge. 

Prior to joining SU, Alvarez was a media relations officer in Georgetown University’s Office of Communications, where she managed communications for Georgetown College, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Georgetown Public Policy Institute. She has held positions in arts marketing and communications at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and locally at Syracuse Stage.

Alvarez earned a bachelor of science degree in public relations from SU’s Newhouse School.
