SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Syracuse University Chancellor Nancy Cantor is featured in a Diverse: Issues in Higher Education article on inclusiveness in higher education which noted recent University Senate proceedings on the topic at SU. Deans Douglas Biklen, School of Education; and Lorraine Branham, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications; and Micere Githae Mugo, Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence and professor of African American studies in The College of Arts and Sciences, are quoted in the article.

SU student involvement with the Palitz Gallery exhibition, “The Essential Line: Drawings from The Dahesh Museum of Art,” was featured in a City Arts story about curatorship.

WSYR AM/FM, YNN News and the Post-Standard reported on the SU Bookstore book signing by U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, who signed copies of his new memoir “Against All Odds: My Life of Hardship, Fast Breaks and Second Chances.”

A Saturday Post-Standard article featured plans for SU’s 157th Commencement in May. The story noted J. Craig Venter will address the graduation exercises and will be among the six honorary degree recipients. Venter’s presentation was also reported by 9WSYR-TV.

The Post-Standard reviewed the Syracuse Stage presentation of “The Miracle Worker.”

FACULTY QUOTES

Dessa Bergen-Cico, assistant professor in the Department of Health and Wellness in the College of Human Ecology, commented for an ABC News article on spring break and the risks of drug use.

Rick Burton, David B. Falk Professor of Sport Management in the College of Human Ecology, was interviewed for a Cleveland Plain Dealer story on the NFL lockout.

Menachem Z. Rosensaft, distinguished visiting lecturer at Syracuse University College of Law, authored a Jewish Week commentary on recent remarks by the Polish foreign minister about governmental restitution for property stolen from Jews during the Holocaust.

Harriet Brown, assistant professor of magazine journalism in the Newhouse School, is quoted in an article for the Chicago area’s In These Times magazine about eating disorders and fashion models.

An op-ed by Horace Campbell, professor of African American Studies and political science in The College of Arts and Sciences, on Western military intervention in Libya appeared in the Post-Standard.

Peter Plumley, research associate professor at L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science, is quoted in a Post-Standard story on the annual science fair competition, the Greater Syracuse Scholastic Science Fair.
