SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Articles in Korea’s JoongAng Daily and the Korea Times featured the Sejong-Syracuse MBA program as it approaches its 10th anniversary. Theodore Wallin, associate professor emeritus of marketing at Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management and dean of the MBA program at Sejong University in Seoul, is also featured.

The 2011 PR Week Awards name the Newhouse Executive Master’s in Communications Management as the PR Education Program of the Year. Offered by the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, the interdisciplinary degree program also draws on the strengths of the Whitman School and the Maxwell School, as noted in the article.

Syracuse.com reported briefly on the upcoming presentation of the Tonya Lewis Lee documentary “Crisis in the Crib: Saving Our Nation’s Babies” at Hendricks Chapel. The film and panel discussion which follows, will address infant mortality among African American families.

The new website for the Newhouse School’s World Journalism Project connecting SU journalism students with South Africa and the South Side of the city of Syracuse is featured in a brief Syracuse.com report.

The Post-Standard reported that the Whitman School’s South Side Innovation Center has been named one of two finalists for the National Business Incubator Association’s Dinah Adkins Incubator of the Year award in the general and special focus category.

A Post-Standard Green Central New York feature on sustainability in academe includes SU among the top five green regional colleges and universities, on the 2011 Green Report Card noted by the Sustainable Endowments Institute. A photo of dining hall recycling in the Ernie Davis Residence Hall accompanies the article.

FACULTY QUOTES

School of Information Studies (iSchool) Professor Milton Mueller is quoted on the role of national or international governmental organizations in Internet governance for a Politico article as the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) considers an expansion of domain names at its annual meeting in San Francisco.

YNN reported reactions among SU students from Japan to events in their home country.

PR Week briefly reported on Shannon Bowen, associate professor of public relations in the Newhouse School, taking part in a Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations webinar panel on teaching ethics in public relations education.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, is quoted in aNew York Times article and cited in The Seattle Times about CBS play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson and the NCAA tournament. Thompson is also quoted in the Detroit News on the police drama “Detroit 1-8-7.”

Andrew Saluti, assistant director of museum operations at SUArt Galleries, appeared on 9WSYR’s Bridge Street to discuss recent and upcoming SUArt Kids events (March 9 and 20). Saluti also discussed the current exhibitions at the galleries.

Syracuse.com reports that SU will celebrate social media with an “Orange Influencers” party at the 2011 SXSW Music and Media Conference in Austin, Texas. SU’s presence at SXSW will feature a mix tape compilation, “SUxSW,” with music by local, student and alumni artists.

Alice Sterling Honig, professor emerita of child development in the College of Human Ecology, is quoted in a News-Herald (Willoughby, Ohio) story on preschool and child development.

William Hoyer, professor and associate chair of psychology in The College of Arts and Sciences and senior scientist in the Center for Health and Behavior, is quoted in a Post-Standard story on brain health.
