SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Data from Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) is cited in a Las Vegas Review-Journal article on immigration enforcement use of expanded facilities at Henderson Detention Center.

CBS Evening News (view clip) reported on the work of the SU College of Law Cold Case Justice Initiative (CCJI). Co-director and College of Law Professor Paula Johnson and Shabnam Karimkhani, second-year law student, are quoted.

The Rome Observer previewed a digital imaging lecture with Julianne Kost to be presented by Light Work and co-sponsored by SU’s Division of Student Affairs.

The Saturday Post-Standard reported on the launch of the Near Westside Initiative (NWSI) microloan program.

The “Infinite Mirror: Images of American Identity” exhibition at SUArt Galleries was reviewed in the Post-Standard Stars magazine.

A Nancy Keefe Rhodes profile of Amos Kennedy and review of the “Amos Kennedy Prints!” show at Community Folk Art Center (CFAC) co-curated by Andrew Saluti, assistant director of museum operations at SUArt Galleries, and Christopher Battaglia, CFAC interim curator, was published in The Eagle.

FACULTY QUOTES

David M. Crane L’80, professor of practice in the College of Law, is quoted on opposition from the international community to indicting Moammar Gadhafi for war crimes in Sierra Leone in a recent London Times article about Britain’s role in the issue.

Arlene Kanter, professor of law in the College of Law, was interviewed for an article in the Fulbright Israel alumni newsletter about working in Israel for inclusive policies for people with disabilities.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School, is quoted on the integrity of the sound and image of TV in an Ottawa Citizen article and on the star power of the Oscar Awards in the Christian Science Monitor. Thompson is also quoted about Facebook and the movie “The Social Network” in the San Jose Mercury News and Houston Chronicle and in the San Antonio Express about the popular culture history of the Alamo in Texas.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, is cited and quoted on Wisconsin’s state pension system in Forbes, New York Times and Salon articles.

Peter Blanck, University Professor and director of the Burton Blatt Institute (BBI), is quoted in a Buffalo News article about a man with cerebral palsy who was awarded a show in the finale Friday night of “Your OWN Show,” a reality TV competition on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
