SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

Janis McDonald, professor in the College of Law, was quoted in the Kansas City Star on how SU’s Cold Case Justice Initiative is working to uncover credible new cases of racial murders that were never solved.

The Auburn Citizen reported on a Black History Month event at Auburn High School at which Joseph Cote, adjunct professor at Syracuse University College of Law, spoke to students about Lincoln Law and the anti-slavery movement.

Steve Lloyd, associate director of sustainability at Syracuse University, discussed concepts of sustainable practices in a Syracuse New Times feature about sustainability literacy and area resources for green lifestyles. The Sustainability Division at SU is also mentioned.

Syracuse.com noted that Jim Boeheim, SU men’s head basketball coach, is serving as honorary co-chair of the Upstate Medical University fundraising campaign for its proposed Upstate Cancer Center.

The Post-Standard briefly reported on an upcoming basketball exhibition partnering SU with Move Along Inc. to showcase sports equipment that people with disabilities can use.

The “Westside Through My Eyes” photography competition as part of the Near Westside Initiative was featured in a Post-Standard article on the Westside Arts Council.

FACULTY QUOTES

SU alumnus Rami Khouri ’70, G’98, director of the Issam Fares Institute of Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut and editor-at-large of the Beirut-based Daily Star newspaper, was a featured guest on CNN’s “Parker/Spitzer” (view clip).

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is quoted in AM NY on child celebrities growing up to become troubled adults. He is also quoted in the Christian Science Monitor on a Robocop statue in Detroit.

David Cay Johnston, distinguished visiting lecturer in the College of Law, is mentioned in an Oregonian article on the ethical issues of ESPN striking contracts with shoe and apparel companies.

An op-ed by Donald Siegel, professor of earth science in The College of Arts and Sciences, on the debate over natural gas development in New York appeared in the Buffalo News.

A Syracuse.com news story discussed comments made by Mary Alley, Jordan-Elbridge school board president, during an interview with Grant Reeher, professor of political science in the Maxwell School, as part of the Campbell Conversations on WRVO radio. Reeher, who moderated a Jordan-Elbridge school board meeting in October, interviewed Alley earlier this month. A podcast is available here.
